BENEFITS OF EMPLOYEE WELLBEING COACHING

Supporting your employees to thrive is good for business

IMPROVED EMPLOYEE MENTAL HEALTH LEADING TO REDUCED ABSENCE AND INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY

Employee

When a person experiences poor mental health it has a physiological effect on their body.  The stress hormones reduce the effectiveness of their immune system and impairs brain functioning, especially over a prolonged period of time such as with the COVID19 pandemic.

Ongoing mental ill health will lead to increased absence from work or presenteeism with reduced productivity.  So by offering employees wellbeing coaching as soon as they begin to struggle with their mental health, or better still to maintain mental wellness will help support them and your business.

As part of the wellbeing coaching process employees will be supported to complete a Wellness Action Plan which will enable them to identify solutions to help them regain or maintain their mental health.

Employees will feel a sense of empowerment as they take back control of their wellbeing, which will have a positive impact on all areas in their life.

The cost of employee ill health and low productivity is particularly magnified for small businesses with lean structures, so the contribution every person makes really matters.

IMPROVED EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT LEADING TO IMPROVED CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

Young Business Colleagues

Employee engagement is when employees are actively engaged in the work they do, taking real ownership, rather than simply putting in the time.  The daily decisions and actions of employees in a small business will have a significant impact on its growth and success, particularly your customers experience, so ways to improve engagement are key.

Employees need to feel they have purpose and meaning at work, and when an employer shows commitment to their wellbeing, they feel valued as a person and not just as a resource.

Engaged employees are more motivated to doing their best at work which automatically increases productivity and innovation.

Plus as a small business owner you may have taken personal time to recruit talented individuals who you feel share your vision and values for the business.  So caring for their wellbeing helps you to retain your valued team.

HOW IT WORKS

WHAT IS EMPLOYEE WELLBEING COACHING?

It's either a one off / series of coaching sessions with the aim of providing an employee with protected time to talk in confidence with a professional wellbeing coach about issues affecting their wellbeing.

By skilfully listening, questioning, reflecting, encouraging, challenging and supporting, the coach will guide the employee to look to the future by helping them design and execute their own solutions to their problems and challenges.

The coach will take the employee through a Wellbeing Action Plan to record key points and ensure the employee has clear actionable steps to support their wellbeing.

The number of sessions would be agreed at the outset with the employer and employee.

WHAT IS A WELLNESS ACTION PLAN?

They are a personalised and practical tool which any employee can use – whether they have mental ill health or not – to help identify what keeps them well, what they perceive causes them to experience stress, and how to address any mental ill health problems they may be experiencing.

They provide a great structure for wellbeing conversations and open up the dialogue between an employee and their manager/wellbeing coach, to help understand the employees wellbeing needs.

Plus they can be a record for agreeing and reviewing any reasonable adjustments for employees returning to work after a long term absence as part of a phased return.

It should be noted that these are not a legally binding document, but simply a record for both parties to ensure wellbeing.

WHAT ABOUT CONFIDENTIALITY?

Irrespective of who pays for the wellbeing coaching service, client confidentiality will apply to all coaching sessions, however if there are issues raised by the employee in relation to stress in the workplace, the coach will strongly encourage and support the employee to find a solution.  The coach will also offer support for any discussions with the employees line manager with the aim to support a suitable resolution.

The only time where a wellbeing coach would need to breach confidentiality is if they believe the individual is likely to harm themselves or another person.  In these situations they would persuade the employee to seek help with their full support, or may need to call Emergency Services if the coach believes they are in immediate danger.

WHO PAYS FOR THIS SERVICE?

Ideally employers would either pay in full or contribute towards this service as part of their employee benefits package, or commitment to employee mental health and wellbeing.

Alternatively employees can pay for this service in full as a recommended service through their employer.

BOOK A CALL TO DISCUSS EMPLOYEE WELLBEING COACHING

This would be a great way to support employees returning from long term absence such as furlough leave, to make the transition back into their roles as smooth as possible.
